the angels is a physical manifeststion of a digital archive of fallen birds that began in 2019. The stones were collected along the shoreline of Lake Michigan and Lake Superior and printed using liquid emulsion. This piece is an ode to birds and their omniscient gaze, whose short migratory lives are then merged with the solid body of stones found throughout moments of meditation along the lakefront. The omniscient eye, upon death, brings forth a greater reaction. New things are always to come; life is a balancing act. To encase these frail bodies onto a solid vessel molded by the passage of time using the power of light, I seek to immortalize these beings as an ode to the push and pull of life, much like a migrating shoreline.
mis angelitos
viaje largo, camino corto
algo va por venir
a cambio, tus ojos omniscientes
Guíame a través la corriente
al reino más alla
my angels
a long journey, a short path
something is to come
in turn, your omniscent eyes
guide me through the current
to the kingdom beyond
